King Harald of Norway

Harald V, born 21 February 1937) is the King of Norway. He succeeded to the throne upon the death of his father Olav V on 17 January 1991.

The son of the then-Crown Prince Olav and of Princess Märtha of Sweden, Harald was born at the Crown Prince Residence at Skaugum, Akershus, Norway. A member of the House of Glücksburg, a house originally from Northern Germany, Harald became the first Norwegian-born prince since Olav IV, who was born in 1370.

Harald V is the formal head of the Church of Norway and the Norwegian Armed Forces. He has two children, Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Märtha Louise.

He is closely related to other European monarchs. He is the first cousin once removed of King Philippe of Belgium and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, the second cousin of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and the second cousin once removed of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

In 2015, he became the world's first reigning monarch to visit Antarctica, specifically the Norwegian dependency Queen Maud Land.

Details on Prince Carl Philip's wedding

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia at the centre of the table of honour, in the Vita Havet Assembly Rooms at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

The royal wedding banquet was held at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, and the menu was as follows:

White asparagus "Princess Sofia" cooked in elderflower juice with roe from Älvdalen, asparagus and chive emulsion

Langoustine simmered with coriander served with grilled scallop, yuzu dressing, wood sorrel and split peas

*

Fried, lightly cured Hjälmaren pike-perch with grilled spring vegetables, caramelised crème fraîche and smoked butter

*

Peach and raspberry tartelette with white chocolate, champagne and peach sorbet

During the dinner, The King gave a speech in which he said: "It really is striking, just how much happiness and togetherness that you, Sofia and Carl Philip have found in each other. It is genuinely pleasing to see how you both bring out the best in each other. How you cooperate and complement each other, and how you support each other – in both the big and little things."

Princess Sofia's father, Mr Erik Hellqvist, also gave a speech in which he said: "Carl-Philip, I won’t ask you to look after my daughter. She has always managed that fine herself.  But I do ask you both to continue to take good care of each other."

Prince Carl Philip gave the final speech, saying: "I have got a lot left to learn in life, and a lot left to do. It is a long road, and I am immensely looking forward to travelling it with you. But I've already learnt the most important thing I need to know, and that is: love conquers all." 

After the wedding banquet, the wedding cake – which had been made by the Swedish National Pastry Team – was served.

The evening concluded with dancing in Karl XI's Gallery.

Swedish Royal Wedding

Carl Philip Edmund Bertil, Prince of Sweden, Duke of Värmland, was born on 13 May 1979. He is the second oldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

The Royal Couple are pictured with their wedding guests, including many different royals representing many European countries.

Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist's engagement was announced on 27 June 2014.

The wedding took place on 13 June 2015 in the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace of Stockholm.

Sofia Kristina Hellqvist was born on 6 December 1984 at Danderyd Hospital.

Her family moved from Täby to Älvdalen in 1991.

Her parents are Erik and Marie Hellqvist.

The King and Queen of Sweden

King Carl Gustaf married Miss Silvia Renate Sommerlath on 19 June 1976 in Stockholm Cathedral. They have three children: Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine.

The King and Queen reside at Drottningholm Palace.

Royal Gala - Danish and Dutch Royals

Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark host a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace on the occasion of the state visit of Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. The video shows the royal arrival to the palace.

Queen Elizabeth's 60th Wedding Anniversary

In 1947, a 21-year old Princess Elizabeth of Great Britain married a naval officer, Prince Philip of Greece. They are cousins, related through Queen Victoria, where Philip's grandmother, Princess Victoria of Battenberg, was the granddaughter of Queen Victoria. Princess Victoria was also the sister to two famous Russian royals, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and Grand Duchess Elizaveta.

Prince Philip of Greece with his fiancé, Princess Elizabeth of Great Britain, in 1947. They had met each other 8 years earlier, in 1939, when Elizabeth was 13 and Philip was 18, and from then on they started a correspondence for the next 8 years, until their engagement.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh celebrated 60 years together in 2007. For the occasion, they recreated their famous engagement photograph. The Queen is wearing the same pearl necklaces, pearl earrings and sapphire and diamond brooch that she wore in the 1947 photograph.

This year the Queen and Duke celebrate their 68th anniversary, an amazing feat indeed.

Dutch Monarchy

Prince Johan Friso and Princess Mabel. Prince Friso died in 2013 after being in a coma after a skiing accident. He was the youngest child of Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus of the Netherlands.
