This picture, from the 1980's, show the Queen wearing the Kent Demi-Paure of Amethysts and diamonds. The parure belonged to Queen Victoria's mother, the Duchess of Kent. The Queen rarely wears this beautiful set of jewellery, but with a new Princess in the family, we may see Kate wearing some of these not-often seen jewels.

Queen Elizabeth the Second

Elizabeth has been on the throne for 60 years, and February 2012 marked her Diamond Jubilee. This is a commemorative tapestry, where the design is made out of mother-of-pearl buttons, which have been hand-sewed onto the red velvet.

I was always intrigued that they place the Duke of Windsor (King Edward VIII) next to the Queen Mother, since she always hated the Duke and his wife, Wallis, blaming them ultimately for her husband's death from cancer.
