Princess Diana was perhaps the person who made the large sapphire and diamond rings so popular when she chose a particularly large sapphire and diamond piece as her engagement ring in 1980. Her iconic wedding ring can still be seen, gracing the hand of her daughter-in-law, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
