Large Emerald Cocktail Rings I

COCKTAIL RING: An oversized ladies' ring with a large center stone often surrounded by tiny stones. Nearly any oversized ladies' ring may be termed "cocktail". This is the most common type of costume jewellery ring and is also known as a cluster ring and dinner ring.

Of course, the real definition for "Cocktail Ring" is: a clunky piece of jewelry that would get in the way of normal household chores, but because the rings themselves are quite expensive, it's a way for the rich to show that to do any work with their own two hands is quite beneath them. Hence why you often see large opal cocktail rings; opals are quite fragile stones, and having a large, unprotected opal set into a ring is quite unrealistic, as one slight bump can chip the stone.
